The Middle School Child |
About Mr. Santoro |
Middle school is an exciting, yet challenging time for students, their parents and teachers. During this passage from childhood to adolescence, students are characterized by a need to explore a variety of interests, connecting their learning in the classroom to its practical application in life and work; high levels of activity coupled with frequent fatigue due to rapid growth; a search for their own unique identity as they begin turning more frequently to peers rather than parents for ideas and affirmation; extreme sensitivity to the comments from others; and heavy reliance on friends to provide comfort, understanding and approval.

I graduated with my Master’s degree in School Counseling from New York Institute of Technology in 2006. In 2013 I began my career in Carle Place Middle School after working at the Valley Stream Memorial Junior High School for 6 years. I have 15+ years of experience working in a middle school setting with a focus on assisting students in developing good habits and a strong educational foundation early on in school. It is my belief that School Counselors at all levels help students understand and deal with academic, social, behavioral, and personal issues. As a counselor within this school, I help to provide all students with the skills needed to face challenges and enhance their personal, social, and academic growth.

Quotes to RememberIn playing ball, and in life, a person occasionally gets the opportunity to do something great. When that time comes, only two things matter: being prepared to seize the moment and having the courage to take your best swing.
